“I am dedicated to a productive academic career in which my research takes a comprehensive approach to examining and understanding the multifaceted nature of environmental health disparities. Through my work in corporate, academic and community settings I have seen inequities in the burden of environmental hazards on minority and marginalized communities. The JPB Fellowship provides the opportunity to build my knowledge and skills to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between exposures and health and become a better researcher and advocate in local communities.”

Fellowship Project: Environmental Health Interactions: Examining the Effect of Air Pollution, Stress and Socioeconomics on Cardiovascular Health

Christina H. Fuller, ScD is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical (ECAM) Engineering within the University of Georgia College of Engineering. Dr. Fuller conducts research on environmental engineering, health and justice, specializing in air pollution exposures and health impacts. She has training in engineering, exposure science and epidemiology, which she uses to investigate air pollution exposures, pollution reduction strategies, health disparities and social-environmental interactions. Dr. Fuller is committed to community engagement and the democratization of data and research.  Her work has been funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIHMD), the National Science Foundation and private foundations. She actively engages in a variety of translational research activities through community environmental education and board service. Dr. Fuller serves on the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) of the US Environmental Protection Agency. She earned master’s and doctoral degrees in environmental health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Northwestern University.

Research Expertise

Dr. Fuller has training in environmental engineering and environmental health. She is adept at measurement of particulate and gaseous air pollutants and characterizing differences in concentration over space and time.  Her expertise covers both outdoor and indoor environments. Although the majority of her time is dedicated to air quality she also has experience measuring lead in soil and dust, water quality and chemistry and indoor pesticide concentrations. She also has extensive training in epidemiologic methods. She uses statistical programs including SAS and R in data analysis. Dr. Fuller has also worked as a staff member for several community based organizations on environmental and health issues including lead poisoning, asthma, transportation and air quality.  As a researcher she has utilized community- based participatory methods to conduct research informed by and in partnership with local communities.
