JPB funds supported Ana Pelegrini Guimaraes to work with Fellow Lara Cushing on developing measures of greenspace, air pollution, and noise for a study on neighborhood determinants of birth outcomes.

Ana Pelegrini Guimaraes is an international graduate student from Brazil in the Geography & Environment Department’s M.S. GIS program. She worked in the Institute for Geographic Information Science (IGISc) at San Francisco State University as a graduate research student in two main projects: “From the City to the Cell: Neighborhood determinants of adverse birth outcomes” and “Measuring the Fast-Food Environment of California Schools”. JPB funds have supported her to work with Dr. Lara Cushing, Dr. Jerry Devis and Anna Studwell on developing measures of green space, air pollution and noise for the City to Cell project, which she is now expanding into her master’s thesis research.
